Social Science Research Foundation (SOSREF) is a non- profit motive institution committed for organizational developmement and social contribution. It is promoted by leaders of three organizations namely Dynamic Society Nepal (DSN), Nepal German Academic Association (NEGAAS), and Pragya Foundation.

A planning workshop was organized with the aim to set up a Foundation for the promotion of social science research in the South Asian Region. The workshop was facilitated conceptually by Prof. Anand Aditya and Mr. Surendra Dhakal. Moreover, a series of deliveries and inputs received afterwards from Dr. Andreas Homburg, Faculty Member, Social Psychology Department, Philipps University, Marburg, Germany; from Prof. Shri Prakash, Research Dean, BIMTEC, Greater Noida, India, and from Dr. Nasir Jalil a World Bank Advisor from Pakistan, helped develop an institutional framework and networking thereof. The Foundation thus came into operation in 2007.

A three tiered organizational structure has been visualized that includes:
1. An Advisory Team composed of well-known researchers and social entrepreneurs such as
  a) Prof. Anand Aditya, as Chief Advisor
  b) Prof. Shri Prakash, as Advisor
  c) Prof. Nasir Jalil, as Advisor
  d) Dr. Andreas Homburg, as Advisor
  e) Mr. Surendra Dhakal, as Executive Advisor

2. A Planning Team composed of a Board of Trustees; and

3. An Executive Team headed by a Chief Executive Officer
a) Development of research culture within the institute and beyond;
b) Development of human resource;
c) Effective networking among the knowledge workers;
d) Specialized teams for survey and research activities;
e) Inputs for institutional development;
f) Policy advocacy;
g) Presentation of scientific papers and international fellowships.
